We should have found our form weeks ago, says exasperated Wigan boss Rosler as slump continues

Wigan need to compose themselves and play with more freedom to put an end to their six-game winless run, according to manager Uwe Rosler.

Wigan drew 2-2 against Wolves at Molineux at the weekend with Marc-Antoine Fortune particularly impressive, scoring his first Championship goal of the season for the Latics.

However with Wigan fourth from bottom, Rosler has outlined plenty of issues that need to be solved of the match against his old club Brentford after the upcoming international break.

“When we had the ball, we didn’t play as good as we can or with the freedom we can play with and I don’t know why that is,” he said.

“Perhaps it’s still a confidence issue or whether it’s because we focus too much on how we win the ball.

“I think we have to address that and play with more freedom.”

Striker Fortune, with the goal that briefly sent Wigan into the lead at Molineux, almost went out on loan this season but his attitude is just what the team need to be adopting.

The German said: “Marc has been an exceptional professional, he kept focused, he concentrated on keeping himself fit, he’s good around the place and now we’re in a situation where I needed proven quality in the Championship.

“That’s what Marco gives us because he has that. Today, he was excellent, he was good against Bournemouth but today he was excellent: he deserved his goal and I’m happy that I didn’t let him go out on loan.”

James Perch and Leon Barnett were others that impressed the manager but he now needs the Latics confidence to shine through to show they are worthy of being in the Championship.

“Players have to realise that I can only give them so many chances because we’re a top club in the Championship and, with the personnel we have, it can’t take you ten games to find your form.”
