Oldham Athletic manager Lee Johnson hopes his side can capitalise on their unbeaten run and turn draws into a win on Saturday against high-flying Peterborough United.
Johnson’s team came from behind to beat Scunthorpe 3-2 last weekend, thanks to two goals from Danny Philliskirk and one from Jonathan Forte, to take their unbeaten run to seven.
Oldham have lost just three of their last 22 fixtures and Johnson thinks Darren Ferguson’s Peterborough, though on song themselves, could offer the Latics a chance to break their snap of one-point games.
“We have little spells in games, good and bad, but we have probably had too many draws,” said Johnson.
“Darren Ferguson does well with his teams but they do have chinks in their armour that we’ll look to exploit.
“We will go there full of confidence that we can get a result.”
Peterborough are second in the table and last week’s 1-0 win against Fleetwood Town saw them recover from consecutive defeats.
“I expect them to have a lot of energy in the front four and they are busy, dynamic players,” added Johnson.
“They have a strong defence and they are up there for a reason.”
When Peterborough travelled to Boundary Park last season the Latics showed great determination to come from behind to edge a nine-goal thriller.
And Johnson may need his side to be similarly tenacious as well as more prolific in front of goal if they are to maintain their unbeaten run.
Before their three goals last weekend, Oldham had scored just six from six – a figure the manager wants to increase.
“We’ve been looking for the front group to deliver a little bit more,” Johnson said.
“I still think we can improve. It is a very tight league this season and it’s going to be a marathon not a sprint.
“Usually the league pans out over ten games but it won’t be like that this season.”
