Manchester Dogs’ Home bash: Round of a-paws for city’s ‘good folk’ as concert drums up thousands

The ‘good folk’ of Manchester and the city’s finest musicians have rallied together and drummed up almost £3,000 for Manchester Dogs’ Home, which was gutted by a fire two weeks ago.

Sound Control played host to a stellar line-up of bands, acoustic acts and DJ’s which included Happy Mondays star, Rowetta, singer songwriter Danny Mahon and XFM DJ Gareth Brooks at the all-day fundraising event.

The money raised through ticket sales and raffles last Sunday will go towards helping the devastated dogs’ home back up on all fours.

Event Manager Ben Taylor told MM: “It was packed. Both floors were jumping, from the bar area where the DJs did their thing, to the loft where all the bands and musicians played cracking sets.

“As soon as we opened the doors you could tell it was going to be a fun, electric atmosphere, non-stop dancing and smiles.

“We raised £2,790, and we’ve still an online auction to come this week, so we’re hoping to top the £3k mark.

“On behalf of Sound Control, I’d like to thank everybody who came to show their support, you’ve all made a huge difference for the home. We definitely proved that Manchester is full of good folk.”

STING-A-LONG: Danny Mahon was one of many acts to play on the night

The horrifying blaze at Manchester Dogs’ Home, which left 60 animals dead, sparked a phenomenal global outpouring earlier this month and a total of £1.4million has already been raised.

Alongside cash donations, members of the public also rallied round to provide food and other emergency supplies for the dog’s who were rescued from the fire.
