Don’t sit down! Madchester rockers James hope to get bums off seats in Super League Grand Final

Manchester rock band James will attempt to get bums off seats when they perform before the Super League Grand Final kicks off next month.

The Mancunian ensemble, who are best known for their 1989 iconic anthem ‘Sit Down’, have more than 20 UK top 40 singles to their name.

James will be performing a variety of hits, as well as brand new songs from their most recent album ‘La Petite Morte’, in front of what is expected to be a full house.

Front man Tim Booth is looking forward to perfomring in front of a packed Old Trafford stadium.

He said: “Performing in front of 70,000 people at Old Trafford for the Super League Grand Final should be a blast”

The band, formed in the early 1980s in Whalley Range by friends Paul Gilbertson and Jim Glennie, enjoyed mainstream success at the height of the ‘Madchester’ movement during the early 1990s.

Although Booth left the band in 2006, they re-formed a year later and released their 13th studio album this June, with a tour planned to begin in November.

Blake Solly, the Super League’s general manager was delighted to have secured James to open the biggest event in the Rugby League calendar.

He added: “With the announcement of a headline band as big as James the pinnacle of the First Utility Super League season guarantees to deliver an amazing experience for fans both on and off the field.

“The excitement around the Grand Final is building nicely with tickets sales significantly up on last year and with further entertainment announcements to follow the 2014 Grand Final promises to be a memorable experience not to be missed.”
