Manchester City’s Spanish midfielder David Silva says the Premier League champions can become one of the best clubs in the world after the Spaniard signed a five-year contract extension.
Silva, 28, arrived at Eastlands in 2010 and has played a pivotal role in helping City to two top flight titles, last season’s Capital One Cup and their first silverware in 35 years in 2011, when they lofted the FA Cup.
Nevermind past glories, says Silva, the club has a lot bigger and better places to go.
“Over the last four years, we have achieved so much together, establishing City as a dominating force in England and now, when I look around this dressing room, I can see no reason why we won’t become one of the top teams in the world,” he told the club’s website.
“It was a straightforward decision to extend my stay here and spend my peak years at Manchester City, a club with unbelievable fans who have always supported me.
“From the moment I joined the club four years ago it has felt like a second home to me.
“On and off the pitch, I feel incredibly content and fulfilled professionally and personally, so why wouldn’t I want to stay and keep winning trophies with this fantastic team?”
The news brought in a flood of tweets from City fans, understandably delighted at the news given Silva’s talents and what he has brought to the team by way of creativity and, ultimately, trophies.
It will be a absolute pleasure to watch this beautiful genius play in blue for another 5 years! @MCFC pic.twitter.com/8bbLFbnAgK
