Manchester City women have started an alternative training programme where every Thursday they swap football for a different activity in a bid to get fitter and stronger.
By the looks of things, City will also be getting meaner, after defender and keen judoka Chelsea Nightingale asked her sister Kay to book a session for the team at Denton’s Raven Judo Club.
As the Nightingale siblings sparred, jaws dropped with amazement.
“I didn’t know how good she was,” said New Zealand international Betsy Hassett.
Chelsea, 22, who also works as a physio in south Manchester, was modest as ever in her description of her hobby.
“Through the years we’ve enjoyed doing it twice, three times a week,” she said.
“It’s a dead good team bond that we’ve got so it’s really fun to come and do these things.”
