A masked gang brandishing machetes and bats repeatedly stabbed a young man in a ‘targeted’ 30-second attack at a Radcliffe pub.
The 12-strong group stormed the Victoria Hotel on Ainsworth Road at around 8.30pm on Saturday – and fled just half a minute after the frenzied ambush.
The victim, 23, suffered several knife wounds and went to hospital for treatment but his injuries are not life threatening.
Detective Inspector Carol Hobson Bury Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “It appears that up to 12 masked men went into the pub and launched a targeted attack on one individual. I would urge anyone who saw the disturbance who has not yet spoken to us to contact police.
“Alternatively if you have any information about who may have been involved I would ask that you call us.”
Nobody else was injured in the attack, and regulars and staff have claimed that they had not seen the victim in the pub before.
The area was cordoned off for several hours after the attack and police are still appealing to witnesses as they try to establish the motive behind this brutal assault.
Anyone with information should call the Bury Neighbourhood Police team on 0161 85 68222 or 101, or independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
