Loose Women presenter Coleen Nolan to judge transgender comp Miss Sparkle in Manchester

Loose Women presenter Coleen Nolan will be the head judge of national transgender competition Miss Sparkle, hosted in Manchester.

Sparkle, one of the world’s most high profile Transgender events, enjoys its tenth anniversary this year and will be in the Gay Village on July 12.

To celebrate the land mark, the festival that celebrates all things trans will be held over two days in Sackville Gardens with more artists and extravagance than ever before.

Coleen said: “To be approached to be a Judge at Sparkle is a tremendous honour, I have many letters from trans people and always try to offer some advice and guidance on how to find support and live an honest fulfilled life.”

The Nolan sister is well known for giving no-nonsense advice through her column in the Daily Mirror and has advised many trans people and families of trans people on where to gain advice and support.

Event advisor Tony Cooper told MM: “Over 10 years so much has changed, we now see more trans people on TV and in the media, we now have the world’s first permanent trans memorial here in Manchester in Sackville Gardens.

“Manchester’s Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDoR) is fast becoming the keynote TDoR event in the country with the first Lord Mayor’s reception in Manchester held last year for TDoR.”

The weekend open to everyone who sees themselves as transgender as well as their friends and families to enjoy parties, performances talks and workshops.

Tony said: “All of this progress not have been possible 10 years ago but with events like Sparkle growing to the size it is now trans issues can no longer be ignored it is time for non-trans people gay or straight to stand shoulder to shoulder with our trans sisters and brothers and reject hate reject transphobia and embrace equality for all.”
