A Northwich father of two completing a half marathon tour of Britain to raise money for disadvantaged and disabled young people intends to finish on a high at this year’s Lloyds Bank Cardiff Half Marathon.
Geoff Glover, who works as a tax partner at the Buxton Partnership based in Northwich, decided to complete a quartet of half marathons after last year being accepted as a member of the Lord’s Taverners Club – the UK’s leading youth cricket and disability sports charity.
The challenge started with the Edinburgh Half Marathon in May, while he is down to take part in the Dublin Half Marathon and Great North Run before finishing with Wales’ largest mass participation event, the Lloyds Bank Cardiff Half Marathon, on October 5.
And with close personal ties to the work being done by the Lord’s Taverners, Geoff, who lives in Wigan, has plenty of motivation during his mammoth tour.
“I was privileged to become a member of the Lord’s Taverners last year and I’ve since seen the amazing work they do on behalf of disadvantaged and disabled young people,” said Geoff, who is looking to raise a minimum of £2,000.
“When you get the chance to be a member of the Lord’s Taverners, it is quite a big thing so it’s good to be able to give something back.
“I have friends and family with varying disabilities which limit their opportunity to engage in what some of us regard as everyday activities.
“I haven’t done this sort of running for a long time, it’s something I know I can achieve but it will be hard.
“I had seen the Cardiff half marathon on the television and it was something I always wanted to try.”

Well over 19,000 people regularly take part in the 10K and half marathon road races in Cardiff and Geoff believes the Welsh capital will prove a fitting setting for his final leg of the tour.
“I think it will be amazing, I have Cardiff a few times to watch sporting events so it will be great to take part in it this time,” he added.
“It’s a great city and a fitting place to finish the tour of Britain. I imagine there will be a few celebrations when I cross the finish line.”
