The below footage shows a violent thug who repeatedly punched a woman in the face as she tried to hold onto her bag during an attempted mugging in Blackley.
The 31-year-old woman was attacked after passing a group of approximately seven teenagers along Rochdale Road, Blackley, at about 6.35pm on June 4.
Police have appealed to the rest of the group to get in touch with information about the lone attacker.
“If you were part of the group don’t be as culpable as him and call us and let us know who he is. By doing nothing you make yourself as guilty as him,” said Detective Sergeant Alex Wild.
“If anyone else has information about the offender please get in touch.”
One youth from the group approached her from behind as she reached the junction with Lion Brow and attempted to steal her handbag.
When she refused to let go, the mugger repeatedly punched her in the face before members of the public intervened and dragged the boy away before he fled the scene.
He is described as a white male, 14 or 15 years old, 5ft 5in tall, of slim build with blonde hair.
He was wearing a 3/4 length light blue quilted/padded jacket, grey jogging bottoms and a grey hooded top underneath with the hood pulled up.
Detective Sergeant Wild said: “This young thug, who has been part of a larger group, has violently assaulted the victim in an attempt to steal her handbag.
“Thankfully members of the public saw what was happening and intervened.
“Although the injuries weren’t too serious, she has been left understandably upset and we are now appealing for help to trace the offender.”
Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 3925, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
