‘Filthy’ play about SPERM comes to Manchester’s 24:7 Theatre Festival

The world premiere of a play centred on SPERM will take place in Manchester next month as part of Manchester’s 24:7 Theatre Festival.

STUFF, by critically acclaimed Troll:(Keyboard Warrior) writer Mick Cooper, tells the tale of a couple who are struggling to come to terms with their infertility woes.

One evening their flamboyant and outspoken friend Xav, who is terminally ill, suggests they use his frozen ‘stuff’ to become parents.

The show focuses on the couple’s decision on whether or not to accept his final gift.

Mick explained that among other themes the story is about friendship.

He said: “It shows what friends are willing to do for each other, and whether that’s a good thing or not.

“It’s a funny and sometimes moving tale, about three people who love each other a lot.”

While the storyline differs from Troll (Keyboard Warrior) Mick said the tone of the show and some of its dark humour relates in some ways to his previous production.

Of the show’s target audience he said: “It can be quite filthy at points, with some bad language, so if you are particularly easily offended do not watch!

“But it’s something for anyone who enjoys a good story.”

The 24:7 Theatre Festival has grown from humble beginnings ten years ago and has since welcomed 30,000 audience members.

Mick added:  “It is the festival in the North West for writing. It has an incredible record of launching high quality, new writing to Manchester audiences and beyond.

“It’s great to be part of the tenth anniversary celebrations.”

STUFF will be showing at the Elphick Stage at Manchester 24:7 Theatre Festival between Friday July 18 and Thursday July 24.
