More than 6,000 beer enthusiasts will descend on Edgeley Park this weekend to drink in the 28th Stockport Beer and Cider Festival.
The annual festival, which is organised by CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale), will feature hundreds of Britain’s finest cask conditioned real beers, ciders and perries.
There will also be a selection of foreign beers and a new bar with 12 brewed specifically for the festival by local microbreweries.
Last year the event raised £7,000 for independent Stockport charity Walthew House, which supports people who are blind, visually impaired, deaf or hard of hearing.
And festival organiser Jim Flynn is hopeful that they can reach that target again this year.
“I am expecting that we should raise the same amount as last year,” he said.
“When this festival started we only had a few hundred people in attendance and last night we had about 800 people and I think there will around another 5,500 thousand visitors over the course of the weekend.
“It is a great night out with a wonderful atmosphere and all available at a reasonable price.”
Walthew House will have its own stall at the event where it will sell soft drinks and donated beers that will not be available anywhere else on the site.
It is not only an array of beers and ciders that will be on display as there will be live bands performing during every session, with hot and cold food available throughout the festival.
Organisers intend to have at least 70 cask beers available at any one time, but expectations are high that this might not be the case come Saturday night.
