No guarantees: Manchester United’s Adnan Januzaj may not get World Cup starting role, says Belgium coach

Manchester United sensation Adnan Januzaj may struggle for a World Cup berth with Belgium despite his vast array of talents, says national team manager Marc Wilmots.

Januzaj, 19, made his Belgium debut on Monday as the Brazil dark horses swept aside Luxembourg 5-1 to warm up nicely for their first World Cup outing since 2002.

Belgium have one of the easier groups at the finals, facing Algeria, Russia and South Korea, though Wilmots is still unsure about where Januzaj will slot in.

“He gives us an extra dimension, but he faces a lot of competition,” the manager said on Manchester United’s website.

Januzaj came on as a substitute and was full of pace and vigour as he has displayed this season for United.

“It’s my job to play one touch, to dribble, to entertain the crowd a bit,” said the youngster, who elected to play for Belgium last month when faced with the option of representing Serbia, Croatia, Albania, Turkey or England.

“I wasn’t under much pressure. I’m used to playing in front of almost 80,000 at Manchester United. I am happy with my debut.”

United teammate Marouane Fellaini started the match and set up the opening goal for Romelu Lukaku, who completed a hat-trick in the 53rd minute.
