Salford shooting: Victim in serious condition after masked men open fire in packed pub

A man was gunned down after masked men stormed into a pub in Salford and opened fire.

The 49-year-old victim suffered gunshot wounds to his torso and is believed to be in a serious but ‘stable’ condition.

Around 11.30pm last night, two armed men wearing hoodies and balaclavas entered the Ashley Brook Pub, on Liverpool Street, Salford.

Police were alerted to a shooting at the pub and arrived shortly after to find the victim had been shot.

The injured man was then rushed to Manchester Royal Infirmary and is receiving treatment for gunshot wounds to his torso.

Specially trained officers remain at the scene this morning in a bid to piece together last night’s events.

Detective Superintendent, Anthony Creely, said: “We are at the early stages of our investigation, which will establish the full facts behind what has happened, and how this man came to suffer these injuries.

“I understand that residents will be concerned about this incident but we urge people not to speculate or jump to any conclusions about what may have happened.

“Patrols in the area have been stepped up and we will speak to local residents to offer reassurance, and appeal for witnesses.”
