We built this city… on football: Manchester City fans will dance in the streets after Premier League success

Manchester City’s Premier League celebrations are set to move into full swing later today as the newly-crowned top flight champions embark on another victory parade around the city.

Fresh though possibly a little bleary-eyed from yesterday’s triumph, the parade will mark City’s second Premier League title in the last three years and will also celebrate their Capital One Cup win earlier this season.

An open top bus will depart from Albert Square at 18:30 before taking a one mile route through the city centre.

The tour will meet jubilant fans on Peter Street around 18:50 then travel through Deansgate at 19:10 before ending their victory parade at Exchange Square around 19.40.

Sir Richard Leese, Leader of Manchester City Council, said: “This year’s title race has been enthralling and City and their fans have shown true resolve to finish top of the table.

“Putting local rivalries aside, the fact is that the Premier League title has now resided in Manchester for the last four seasons and that can only be good for the city.

“We expect tens of thousands to throng the streets to savour this latest success.”

Thousands of fans are expected to line the streets, and Greater Manchester Police have urged fans to enjoy themselves in a responsible.

Chief Superintendent John O’ Hare said: “Fans are quite rightly over the moon with yesterday’s result and are planning to celebrate their success today.

“It is great to see the Premiership trophy remain in Manchester and we want to ensure people can celebrate this success in a safe and enjoyable manner.

“I would encourage people to arrive in the city centre in good time, drink responsibly and respect the fact that there will be a large number of families present.”

Albert Square will be open to the public from 16:00 on a non-ticketed, first come first served basis.
