Prince fans went into overdrive today after the Purple Rain singer’s Phones 4u Arena concert tickets went on sale, driving online prices up hundreds of pounds.
If the reaction proved one thing it’s this – when Prince comes to town, it doesn’t ‘Purple Rain’: it pours.
Viagogo registered a 354% surge in ticket searches for the dates as countless hopefuls tried to get their hands on tickets for the 5-date UK tour
Hysteria surrounding the iconic musician hit its peak after Prince performed a select few intimate gigs across the country in March. People queued outside the Manchester Academy for hours to catch him perform with 3RDEYEGIRL.
Prince faced some backlash from Mancunians after tickets, priced at £70 each, went on sale in February, as the price was a huge mark up on the London gigs which were only £10.
A spokesperson for Viagogo said: “Prince dominated the news during his month-long stint in the UK earlier in the year and, judging by the demand we’re seeing; his appearance in Manchester clearly left fans wanting more.
“Given it was two decades since his previous performance, it’s clear that his legion of fans are jumping at the chance to catch him again so soon.”
Fans hoping to catch Prince this time around shouldn’t expect a cheap night. Tickets for the standing area start at £65/£73.25, rising steeply to £134 per ticket for lower tier seats.
At the very top end people can expect to pay £279 for a pair of tickets, and tickets are already being sold on eBay for a whopping £492.
The Hit and Run Tour Part II is Prince’s first UK arena tour since his sold-out residency at The O2 London in 2007, and his first regional arena tour since 1995.
The raspberry beret singer will be playing at the Phones 4u arena on the May 16. For more information, click here.
