Salford Red Devils head coach Brian Noble believes his side showed signs of improvement after they lost 32-18 to Widens Vikings at the Stobart Stadium last night.
Salford were leading 18-14 in the second-half but 18 unanswered points for the Vikings increased their winning streak to six games, dating back to last season.
Despite suffering their second consecutive defeat, Noble was encouraged by his side’s performance in response to their heavy home defeat at the hands of St Helens last week.
“It was alright up until about the 50-minute mark,” he said.
“We didn’t handle the kick at the start of the second half and we kind of lost a bit of confidence from there, I think.
“But I thought we made some massive strides in a lot of areas. We were a bit more fluent but then tried to fix it on our own again towards the back-end of the game.
“The bounce of the ball on this field didn’t quite go for us. Those are the things that can happen when you’re a little bit down – we are two from two and have a big game (against Warrington) next week to put it right.”
Widnes head coach Denis Betts praised his side’s unbeaten start to the season but also was complimentary of Salford’s resilience after their defeat last week.
“It’s a great start. We are only three games in but I’m happy with our performances and the resilience we are showing to get results after going behind on the scoreboard,” he told Sky Sports.
“Salford showed a lot of resilience tonight too. On the back of last week when everybody was talking about how they didn’t play well I thought they came here tonight and really got stuck into us.”
