Nominations for the prestigious Inspiring Women Awards 2014 are now open to put the achievements of amazing Manchester ladies into the spotlight.
People have the chance to put forward candidates for this year’s awards until April 4 with the winners announced at a swanky awards ceremony at the Midland Hotel on May 15.
Nominations are a key part of recognising the outstanding work from women in the North West and have led to success stories like the remarkable rise of Sweet Mandarin businesswoman Lisa Tse.
A winner in last year’s entrepreneur category, the Manchester restaurateur flung open the doors to her oriental restaurant a decade ago.
And now with a £50,000 investment from BBC programme Dragons’ Den, Lisa, along with her sister Helen, has expanded the business into food manufacturing with sauces now sold to a global market.
Following a trade visit to China in November with David Cameron, Lisa followed up her Inspiring Women success when she was awarded a ‘shock’ MBE in the New Years’ Honours list.
Now Tse is hailing the awards and the woman behind them founder Jacqueline Hughes-Lundy.
“It’s an honour to win the award and very humbled to meet so many inspirational women – including Jacqueline who is amazing,” said Tse.
“I am proud to continue the traditions of my family by being the third generation of women in my who is a restaurateur.”
Ms Hughes-Lundy founded the awards back in 1992 to aid the charity Tommy’s Campaign, which funds research into pregnancy problems.
Fundraising has since expanded with the introduction of the Inspiring Women Foundation in 2010 and now offers a £1,000 bursary to aid the winner of the Inspiring Woman Award overall category with education, training or business purposes.
