A 24-year-old man is fighting for his life after being involved in a road traffic collision outside Manchester University.
The injured driver was cut out of the mangled wreck before he was immediately rushed to Manchester Royal Infirmary where he currently remains in a critical condition.
The taxi driver, 48, was also taken to hospital and has several broken ribs as a result of the crash.
The accident between a red Lexus and silver Toyota Avensis taxi occurred around 10.30am yesterday.
Fire crews were called to the scene where they attended to the man after the Lexus had flipped onto its roof in the horror smash.
A number of witnesses took to social networks to voice their concerns about the accident.
Amy Partington on Twitter posted: “How did that crash on Oxford Road even happen?! How fast were they going to be over turned? Looks awful. Hope the guy pulls through.”
Another Twitter user Clarissa Giebel called for Oxford Road to be pedestrianised.
“Really hope no one is hurt! Oxford Road should be closed off to cars permanently,” she said.
The collision took place outside Kilburn building and caused a number of disruptions on the roads as there were closures between Brunswick Street and Booth Street for several hours.
