Droves of fans waited from early morning to catch a glimpse of pop starlet Nina Nesbitt at Manchester’s HMV, to promote her new single, ‘selfie’
Nina’s new album Peroxide currently sits at Number 1 in the UK midweek album chart, and is clearly a hit with younger fans.
MM was allowed to speak to the 19-year-old Scot as she did her make-up for the ‘selfie signing.’
She said: “Being number one feels pretty good but compared to where I want to be, I don’t see myself as being overly successful yet.
“This is my first album and it’s taken a long time. I just hope it stays there now.”
She continued: “I don’t think that the album is specific to one genre, I don’t want it to be all one sound. I’d really like to do more collaborations with other artists.
“The singles The Hardest Part and Tough Luck are the most personal to me.”
Nina, who dropped into Manchester with her manager prior to attending the Brit Awards in London later that evening, said that she has been to Manchester a lot.
“At signings there are a lot of girls ‘cause people work I guess but gigs are different. I sometimes find it weird ‘cause I thought that girls don’t usually get on but no they’re great,” she said.
Fans had to be moved by Arndale staff once the queue started to filter out of the door as they blocked access for pedestrians.
Nina was greeted by deafening screaming five minutes later, when she walked to greet fans and posed for countless ‘selfies’.
The queue soon built up again and wound around the entire bottom floor of HMV.
Staff said: “We can only apologise to fans, it’s annoying. Where we used to be there was no problem; fans could queue around the building if they wanted to, they should be able to queue to see their favourite artists.”
Nina has previously played at Manchester’s Roadhouse, The Deaf Institute, Sound Control, The Academy and will also be performing at The Ritz on March 21.
“I’d heard about it so yeah I chose that venue myself,” she told MM. “I’ll be doing songs off the album but I’m going to play them a little bit different, it’s going to be more of a production.”
With her stock on the rise, the singer-songwriter has her eyes firmly set on Manchester’s most famous venue – the Phones 4u Arena.
“I’d love to play at Manchester Arena someday, that would be pretty cool.”
