Electric Lady: Janelle Monáe heads to Manchester Academy hot off the heels from opening Prince show

BRIT Award-nominated diva Janelle Monáe is bringing her energetic live show to Manchester Academy this May.

The American RnB singer, who released her second album The Electric Lady last year, puts on passionate performances that serve as a musical smorgasbord of genres.

If wanting to stick a label on her music, it could be described as a disco-RnB-sci-fi fusion with a rock ‘n’ roll atmosphere.

Monáe has an outstanding catalogue of songs that will pack out a set, including Tightrope, Q.U.E.E.N, Dance Apocalyptic, as well as her hit collaboration with American indie-pop band fun., We Are Young.

Billed as just one of three headline shows in the UK, the Academy leg on May 7 is part of the Electric Lady Tour that has already seen her perform all over the US.

She will also be visiting The Institute in Birmingham and London’s O2 Academy Brixton.

Having started out in 2003, Monáe has garnered praise from one of the highest authorities in contemporary music, with P. Diddy labelling her as ‘the hardest working woman in music’.

Her music screams as loud as her frantic live shows, and she has received acclaim for her vibrant and powerful albums, being nominated for six Grammys.

Monáe is also good friends with music legend Prince, even opening one of his impromptu shows back in December.

With credentials such as these, chances are you’re guaranteed a fabulous night in the presence of the dynamic ‘electric lady’ herself.

Tickets cost £26.50 and are available at: ticketline.co.uk/janelle-monae
