An Oldham man found in possession of a prohibited weapon and more than 40 grams of Class B drugs after harassing his ex-partner was jailed on Friday.
Tariq Livesey was sentenced to 28 months imprisonment and was handed a five-year restraining order forbidding him from passing through Mill Street, Chadderton.
Livesey, of Crossbank House, was arrested last year after breaching his original restraining order prohibiting entry into his former partner’s Mill Street home.
The 27-year-old, who disliked his ex-partner’s new relationship, sent a number of threatening text messages to the victim before violating the order.
Livesey, whose six-year relationship with the victim ended over two years ago, attempted to take their seven-year-old son to football, which he claimed was a weekly arrangement.
But police officers were called when he started swearing and refused to leave the victim’s property for almost an hour and a half.
Upon arrest, a canister of US NATO pepper spray and 1.67 grams of cannabis were found in Livesey’s vehicle.
A further supply of cannabis, with a street value of between £509 and £1018, were discovered during a search of his house.
An examination of Livesey’s BlackBerry mobile phone also found he had offered to supply cannabis after messages were seen containing slang terms relating to the supply of drugs.
At Manchester Crown Court Minshull Street, His Honour Judge Lakin said Livesey’s ‘aggressive and abusive’ behaviour had a ‘significant impact’ on the victim.
He said: “You should have accepted that the relationship between you and your former partner was at an end. You didn’t do so.”
The ‘very heavy cannabis user’, who had been in custody for the last six months, had previous convictions for supplying and possessing cannabis and criminal damage.
His Honour Judge Lakin added: “Cannabis is not only an illegal drug but is also one that can lead to dependency and ill health, particularly mental health.
“It is for this reason that any offence of cannabis with the intent to supply must be taken seriously.”
