While brother Amir Khan anxiously awaits the result of Floyd Mayweather’s fan poll, Bolton’s rising star Haroon started the year with a bang with an emphatic points victory on Friday.
The 2010 Commonwealth Games bronze medallist dominated Francis Croes in Sheffield over four-rounds before winning comfortably 40-36 in his third proffesional bout.
Form the starting bell Khan used his superior footwork and counter punching to offset Croes come-forward style.
As the fight progressed the Bolton boxer continued to land a flurry of telling blows which in turn pushed back the unrelenting challenger.
Haroon was happy with the victory and is ready to continue his momentum.
“This is going to be a big year for me. I want to get my head down, keep learning in the gym and get as many fights under my belt as possible. The last year I’ve picked up so much since turning professional and I want to keep that up,” Haroon said.
“I’m going to be very active in 2014 and I have no doubts that it’s going to be a great year for me because I’m eager to learn and improve and I know I have the right trainer and team around me to do that.”
The 22-year-old is unbeaten in three contests since turning pro last year and has high hopes of replicating the success of his older brother.
Trainer, Oliver Harrison, Amir’s former coach, was also pleased with how his young prospect performed.
“Haroon did very well in there,” said Harrison. “I scored him 8 out of 10 which is very good in my book because I don’t usually give such high ratings,” he added.
“I definitely think it was his best performance since he turned pro and I’m very happy with the progress he keeps on making in the gym. If he keeps learning he can go very far in the sport.”
As an amateur, Haroon, fought in the Bantamweight class where he recorded 66 wins and 19 losses – claiming the Junior ABA Championship and Junior Four Nations Challenge titles.
