The Vega Diaries: Life after the launch of Manchester235’s lavish new bar… and English drinking habits

By Dan Kelly

Phew, what a few weeks it has been!

Since The Vega Lounge opened I have barely had a chance to stop and take a second just to think about how it has all gone.

Manchester235’s new bar, replacing The Fusion Bar, opened on Friday June 28, and luckily our lavish launch party seemed to go down a storm.

I had to juggle quite a few plates on the night, (not literally, for once) so I’m just glad it all went to plan.

It was a chance to show off our new creations – The Vault, where our drinks are served in a safe which looks like it’s about to blow at any second, and our shots roulette game.

It couldn’t have gone any better really, despite having to witness the odd grimace when an unlucky customer was left with a wasabi shot!

The changes to the bar following its transformation to The Vega Lounge have gone down a storm, as the service is now a lot quicker so we’re seeing smiles all round.

We have booths for parties to sit at, which have been busy pretty much every night since we’ve opened, letting us breathe a sigh of relief after the tension before the grand opening!

Speaking of the launch, I’ve seen some strange things in my time, but boy, can you English people drink.

It’s not true what they say about the Aussies – as you guys can put us to shame!

I didn’t think I would see women in beautiful dresses and immaculate hair career around our new bar after taking on the shots roulette challenge – and finishing off the whole wheel.

That’s a gamble in itself!

The weather has been insane recently, meaning there’s no better time to hang out around Great Northern Square where there is plenty to do, and then pop in to Manchester235 to have a little peak at our new place.

It’s great to be attracting more people to the area as it’s such a nice and iconic place, and has never really received the footfall it deserves.

But then again, a bit of sunshine brings out the best in everyone.

So enjoy the weather while it lasts, and don’t get too carried away (I’m used to cutting Christmas turkey at 30 degrees), and pop down to The Vega Lounge when you get a chance.

Oh, and before I forget, the Ashes aren’t out of our grasp yet. You guys may have won the first Test, but we will only come back stronger!

Take care.
