Horror fans are being treated to another double bill of fearsome films at Manchester’s Dancehouse Theatre next week – with the rare opportunity of quizzing cast and crew in Q&As after the screenings.
The evening will get off to a gruesome beginning with Ricky Wood’s re-thinking of a terrifying 400-year-old Scottish legend which will keep you awake at night: Sawney: Flesh Of Man.
In Sawney: Flesh Of Man we watch helplessly as the last descendant of the infamous Sawney Bean is on the prowl in his Black Cab, stalking and abducting corrupt souls for dinner, while his family of inbred cannibals wait up in the Scottish hills for fresh victims.
As the missing persons list begins to grow, journalist Hamish MacDonald, after denouncing the police for their failure to ask, MacDonald decides to investigate, and unsuspectingly puts himself on the menu…
In what Grimm Up North describes as ‘a dark, visceral, yet oddly beautiful film’, Sawney: Flesh of Man features the renowned Scottish actor David Hayman (Trial and Retribution, Sid and Nancy) as the petrifying lead: Sawney Bean and the new and upcoming talent Samuel Feeney as Hamish MacDonald – who will be available for the Q&A session after the film.
Then there will be a dramatic shift in mood with Anthony Woodley’s shocking steampunk fantasia, Outpost 11, starring to Manchester actor Bernard Hill.
Outpost 11 is set in an alternate reality, three soldiers manning a remote listening post in the Arctic Circle find their world plunged into chaos when a warning light goes off unexpectedly.
They must fight isolation, madness and each other to survive…
A blend of psychological drama and metaphysical science fiction, Outpost 11 incorporates elements of classic British war films, claustrophobic tension, and the ice-bound setting of Howard Hawks and Christian Nyby’s classic 1951 original The Thing From Another World.
Writer-Director-Producer Anthony Woodley will taking to the stage after his feature film debut for a rare Q&A session.
The evening is an exclusive opportunity to catch a couple of gripping future favourites on the big screen before anyone else.
