Will Kaufman will once again descend on the Islington Mill in Salford to cover a different aspect of Woody Guthrie’s life and work.
The fundraising event, on behalf of the Working Class Movement Library, will take place on Sunday June 9 at 3pm.
The show, entitled Woody Guthrie – the Long Road to Peekskill, presents the transformation of Guthrie from a youthful Oklahoma racist to anti-racist champion.
American folk singer Pete Seeger said: “I thank Will Kaufman for introducing a new generation of Europeans to ‘the other America’. It’s a wonderful job he’s doing.”
Singer-songwriter Guthrie is famous for risking his life holding the line against American fascism during the Peeskill riots of 1949.
Will Kaufman is a musician and academic, currently the Professor of American Literature and Culture at the University of Central Lancashire.
He has written extensively on American culture and has given his Guthrie presentations at numerous events around the world, including Glastonbury Festival.
Kaufman will employ a ‘live documentary’ style, including completely different material to last year’s sell-out gig.
The Working Class Movement Library is a registered charity which aims to tell the story of Britain’s working classes through a collection of various artefacts.
The Library’s fundraising appeal aims to raise an extra £80,000 each year to maintain the momentum of the large surge in usage of the Library in recent years.
Tickets are priced at £10 and are only available on the door.
