Hyde boss Scott McNiven has stressed the need for his young side to step it up in the Skrill Premier after they were humbled 3-0 at home to Tamworth.
They were recently beaten 6-2 by Forest Green Rovers and this defeat further dampened their spirits after they looked to be making some progress.
Lack of experience has been their main issue for the Tigers this season as they go into this weekend’s fixture against Alfreton Town still rooted to the foot of the table.
“I think we’re in a massively false position, you look at Tamworth, they weren’t great but they’ve come away with a 3-0 win and that’s what’s hurt us all season,” he said.
“Confidence has been affected like I never thought it would be and you try and guide the young lads through but they need to make that step up and make a name for themselves.”
“We need the boys to become men and they haven’t done that quick enough as last year we stood up to be counted in quite a lot of games and this year we haven’t and that’s the most disappointing thing for me,” he said.
In the Skrill North Alan Lord’s Stockport are away at Worcester as they look to keep their impressive run of form after last weekend’s narrow 1-0 win over Histon at Edgeley Park.
County’s 19-year-old keeper put in an impressive performance in that game and he was also the hero in Tuesday night‘s fixture against Boston United where he saved a penalty to hep secure a 0-0 draw.
As well as his goalkeeper’s excellent form, Lord said that he has been pleased with the way his side were going about their business as they continue to climb up the table.
“We’re pulling the points back, we’ve not played outstanding but we’ve played very resolute and we’ve been efficient with what we’ve done and we’re scoring a lot of goals so we are pointing in the right direction,” he said.
“It’s a rebuilding job here and it’s taken a long time and I honestly think we’ve got the basis of something sound to build on.”
Altrincham are also in action as they take on second place Hednesford Town in a game that really is a must win for Lee Sinnott’s men in the race for promotion.
