Anyone for an Etihad mauling? Manchester City average FOUR goals every home game after latest demolition

By Alex Lanigan

Manchester City increased their tally to 59 goals in 15 games at the Etihad this season after hitting West Ham United for six in the first-leg of their Capital One Cup semi-final last night.

Such is their ruthless streak at home this season that City’s strikers are losing count of the number of goals whizzing past opposition keepers, while managers must tremble in fear at having to visit the rocking Etihad.

Edin Dzeko, who scored a double in the victory, was mistaken when he believed the margin of victory to be only the five goals.

“It’s not easy to win 5-0 at home against a Premier League team but we did,” he said.

After being told the correct score the Bosnian replied: “Was it 6-0? Oh.”

The result heightened the pressure on Hammers boss Sam Allardyce, who was on the receiving end of some venomous chants from the fans who had made the 400- mile round trip.

“We want our West Ham back,” they shouted, a reference to the more eye-catching style of play under previous managers including Harry Redknapp.

Even renowned golf coach Dennis Pugh voiced his opinion on Twitter, writing: “West Ham United traditionally played classy football with little by way of results. Under Sam they play with no class and no results :-(.”

Allardyce, whose side were humbled 5-0 by Championship side Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup at the weekend, risked further angering the already irate supporters by saying the result is what they should have expected.

“What do you expect when you’ve got lads on free transfers playing against players that have cost hundreds and hundreds of millions of pounds?” said the 59-year-old.

“It’s not a good time for us to lose 6-0 but it’s not like they haven’t done it to anyone else.

“They’ve done Manchester United, done Tottenham, Arsenal, and we have to face the fact that they’re miles better than us.”
