The Christmas period is a notoriously tricky time for football clubs as the games come thick and fast and the pressure for results goes up a notch.
Some find it a stressful time to be a manager. Not Bolton Wanderers boss Dougie Freedman.
The Scot insists that with his role as a Championship manager and as a father it is a time of year he enjoys.
“There’s nothing better than being in my role and then going home and seeing the kids on Boxing Day and Christmas Day,” Freedman told a press conference.
“I’ve got four wonderful young kids and I do a bit of work outside so I really enjoy Christmas time I do.
“It is an enjoyable time because we are football people and we do enjoy what we do.”
Freedman confirmed that Bolton will be training every day over Christmas and New Year as they seek to improve results and climb the Championship table.
The manager believes that the workload over the festive period is just part of being a professional in football.
“Its work every day it’s as simple as that,” Freedman said.
“We don’t unfortunately have any time off but that is not to say that we don’t still enjoy ourselves.
“We bring our kids into work sometimes, they come to games so it’s a hectic time no doubt.
“That’s the sacrifices you’ve got to make if you want to be a professional footballer and I’m sure every one of our fans would give up that as well.”
