It’s not the Rooney and van Persie show! Moyes demands more Manchester United players ‘chip in with goals’

By Scott Hunt

David Moyes is demanding all players ‘chip in’ with goals in Manchester United’s coming games – after hailing Danny Welbeck’s efforts for securing victory over Norwich.

United earned a tight 1-0 win at Carrow Road to make it four Premier League wins in a row.

Moyes praised Welbeck, who was introduced at half time, for turning the game in United’s favour.

United were without Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie for the clash with Norwich and Moyes is keen that the rest of the squad step up when they are absent.

“We need everybody to chip in with goals when Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie are out,” Moyes told the BBC.

“Danny Welbeck couldn’t score very often last season but he looks like he will do it every time now.”

United endured a difficult first half at Carrow Road where the home side could easily have been in front at half time.

Moyes introduced Welbeck and the England striker made the difference – scoring the only goal in the 57th minute.

“I thought Danny Welbeck came on and made a massive difference for us,” Moyes told MUTV.

“He gave us something slightly different. It was all about Danny’s performance for me.”

Moyes was delighted to come away with the win – their second victory on the road in three days.

“It’s just a brilliant three points,” Moyes told MUTV.

“We needed the squad. We have a big squad here and a good squad.

“If you are going to win games away from home then you are going to need them to do their job, and we are going to need them in the coming games as well.”

United will be looking to continue their move up the league table when they take on Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on New Year’s Day.

Wayne Rooney could be available for that game after missing the trip to Norwich with a groin injury.
