Confused: Manchester United’s David Moyes at a loss to explain Everton’s first win at Old Trafford in 21 years

By Scott Hunt

David Moyes was disappointed with missed opportunities as he watched his former club Everton win at Old Trafford – something he never managed with the Toffees.

Bryan Oviedo’s late winner gave Everton their first win at Manchester United since 1992 and condemned the defending champions to a fourth defeat of the season.

Moyes failed to win away at United, Arsenal, Chelsea or Liverpool in 46 attempts with Everton.

The United boss rued missed chances as he watched his former team take three points.

“I felt we really got on top of the game the whole night,” Moyes told MUTV.

“We had some chances and if we took them then the game could have changed dramatically.

“We needed a bit of good fortune to go our way and we didn’t get that.”

It was another disappointing night for United as their difficult first season under Moyes continued.

Oviedo struck the only goal of the game in the 86th minute to give Everton a deserved winner.

United now languish ninth in the Premier League, a massive 12 points adrift of leaders Arsenal with the chance of defending their title all but over already.

Newcastle visit Old Trafford on Saturday and Moyes is hoping United can put this defeat behind them and move on.

“I am really disappointed, but we go again, keep going and move on to the next game,” Moyes said.

“That is the good thing here, there are always more games.

“We didn’t reach the standards we would have hoped to tonight, but we have a chance to go again.”
