Sale Sharks fullback Rob Miller has praised the competition in the squad as they prepare to face Saracens this Saturday afternoon.
The 24-year-old Cumbrian who, since arriving at the club in 2010, has made the fullback position his own despite missing out on the second half of last season with a shoulder injury.
But Miller believes that the continuity in the squad and the additions made in the summer are combining well for the team.
“The boys that came in have done a great job for us this year we did not have a massive amount of turnover but they have really added depth to our squad and there is competition throughout which is healthy for everyone,” he told MM.
“Tom [Arscott] came in and did really well at the start of the season but we are working really well whether it is on the wing or at 15. With [Mark] Cueto, Brady and Will Addison now back in the fold there is a lot of boys that are flexible right across those positions.
“We have a great team spirit here and a great culture we all want to play for each other and really put in a performance and I think we have shown that in the start we still feel that we can improve and training each day we can reach that.”
Saturday will see Sale play on an artificial pitch at Allianz Park as they hope to defeat Saracens who have only lost once so far this season.
“Saracens have been a top side for the past couple of years. We know what they are about they are big physical direct team we have to go down there and really try to have a crack at them,” he continued.
“Playing away from home is tough, especially at the top four, but we are going down with a clear game plan. Everybody knows what we are trying to do and to go for the win and, if not, stay within seven to pick up the losing bonus point.
“Points on the road are precious, whether it is top four or teams below. You really have to step up your performances to pick up as many points as you can.”
