Spanish shot-stopping star David De Gea has said he is proud to have won the Manchester United fans over after firmly establishing himself as the club’s number one goalkeeper.
The young keeper has been in spectacular form this year making a string of highlight reel saves to help his side out of trouble.
De Gea is happy with his performances but is not resting on his laurels – vowing to continue improving and playing well.
“I play for my team-mates and I play for my manager but I also play for the fans,” De Gea told the club’s website.
“When you win over a club’s fans, it’s a very proud moment. These are the people who pay money to come to watch you every week.
“You owe it to them to play well and give your best, so it makes me extremely happy to hear the fans singing my name.”
The former Athletico Madrid man was criticised for not being physically commanding in during his early days at Old Trafford but those days appear to be behind the Spaniard.
“I’m very happy with my form. I feel like this is a particularly good moment in my career right now and I hope to continue in the same vein for some time to come,” De Gea said.
“I feel like I’m always improving and I want to make sure that continues as well.”
