Manuel Pellegrini is worried that Manchester City’s away form could dent their title chances after their shock 1-0 defeat at second-bottom Sunderland.
Phil Bardsley exposed City’s seventh different back-four combination this season to steer the Black Cats to their second league win of the season.
Pellegrini said following the result that despite their 100% home record, they must improve away from the Etihad.
“I’m concerned about our away form. We are losing too many points away from home. We have to look to improve that,” he said.
“But I have to say that we are not playing badly in these games, it just hasn’t been happening for us.”
Two defeats in their last three league games have seen them slip down to eighth, below Manchester rivals United and the Citizens have picked up just four points from a possible 15.
Pellegrini’s side have the best attack in the league but are not taking enough chances away from home, despite dominating games.
“My reaction to the Sunderland game is very similar to the other games that we lost away,” the Chilean said.
“And that is that it is incredible the way we lost this game.
“For all the possession we had, we just could not score.”
