‘Players will be dropped’: Steve Diamond warns ill-disciplined Sale Sharks to buck their ideas up

By Alan Ross

After a scrappy 16-18 defeat to Exeter Chiefs that featured three yellow cards in 19 minutes for Sale their director of rugby Steve Diamond thinks it is time to regroup.

With Premiership rugby taking a two week break as the LV Cup gets underway Diamond said that his team were their own worst enemies after the match.

Despite coming away with a losing bonus point Diamond put Sale players on notice that they could not expect to feature against Bath next week if they were ill disciplined.

“We will just have to regroup and have a look at our skill set as it has let us down twice on the trot now,”  he said.

“It is individual errors that have cost us the game but fortunately we have a fit squad so people who offend like that will not be picked.

“They [Exeter] are a good side and played a methodical game and we responded by being ill disciplined. We were beaten by a better side.”

After reaching the final of the LV Cup last year Sale will take on Harlequins and Exeter who have both beaten Sale in successive weeks in the league.

The Sharks will also face Welsh side Ospreys, who sit third in the Rabo Pro 12, as well as Bath who travel to the AJ Bell on Friday having already lost to Sale 19-13 as the start of October in the league.
