Prop Eifion Lewis-Roberts has hailed Sale’s all-round improvement this season as the Sharks face Exeter Chiefs at the AJ Bell Stadium on Friday night.
The free-scoring Chiefs have run in 13 tries in their last three matches with their second row captain, Dean Mumm, the joint leading try scorer in the Premiership.
To defeat the visitors, Welshman Lewis-Roberts says Steve Diamond’s Sale need to focus on their own game which he believes has showed continual progression.
“We need to concentrate on what were are doing right and work on that,” he told MM.
“I think in general our whole team is playing better and I don’t think I can single out one particular area where our main strength has been.
“Our defence has upped its game this season which has helped and the attack has backed that up as well. We are just a better outfit and more organised so we have had a lot better start than we did last year.”
Sale have a crop of young front row players that have put in impressive performances so far this season, including Henry Thomas, who was released back to the club after training with England this week.
Lewis-Roberts welcomes the affect this has had on the team and praised Ross Harrison, his rival for a starting berth.
“The young guys are coming on. Ross is playing really well and has a good future ahead of him,” he said of the 21-year-old.
“There is more competition so we have adapted to that and it is good for the team.”
The Welshman, affectionately known to Sale fans as ‘the fridge’, wants to end the Chief’s impressive recent run of form.
“I have been impressed by Exeter so far they have been a strong team who play for each other so it is going to be a tough game on Friday,” the 32-year-old said.
“They are up in the top four at the minute so we are looking to knock them out of there.
“It is a big game and we are looking forward to the challenge.”
