Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasri believes his partnership with David Silva is key to the continued success of the Blues ahead of today’s standout match against Chelsea.
The Frenchman has a 100% record against the West London club for City and, unsurprisingly, says he enjoys fixtures against them.
City fans will be hoping that the midfield pair can erase the Blues’ one point deficit to Chelsea with a win.
“When I first arrived here, we played a lot together and we won the Premier League,” he told the club website.
“We play a lot of possession football so it’s better to have two play-makers on the pitch to help keep the ball and can make something happened with a pass or with a piece of skill.
The Londoners will be buoyed by the absence of City captain Vincent Kompany with Chelsea’s Eden Hazard saying that City are a different team without Kompany in the line-up.
“Kompany is really important for City because when he plays they win and when he doesn’t play they lose, often,” Hazard said at a press conference.
Nasri has noticed the improvement made by Chelsea in recent weeks but despite this is looking forward to the clash.
“It was important we started winning away in the Premier League but we know Chelsea won’t be an easy game,” he said.
“I think they are more complete than they were last season – they are always a threat, especially on their own pitch and with Jose Mourinho returning, that’s even more the case so we will have to be at our best if we are to get a good result.
“I especially love the big games because those are the ones everybody wants to play in.”
When asked about the claims made by Yaya Toure that he was racially abused during the game against CSKA Moscow this week manager Manuel Pelligrini said that his player had done the right thing.
Pelligrini is going to wait and see what action Uefa are going to take after president Michel Platini today announced an investigation into why Uefa protocol was not followed by referee Ovidiu Hategan at the match.
