The loss of veteran manager Sir Alex Ferguson is the key factor behind Manchester United’s poor start to the season, claims City right-back Micah Richards.
But the England full-back is refusing to write off United as title contenders after the Red Devils dropped more points over the weekend.
The City academy graduate believes that David Moyes is capable of success at Old Trafford after proving his credentials at Everton.
“Let’s not kid ourselves, Fergie is probably the best manager ever,” said Richards.
“He’s probably like having a 12th man in your team. Moyes is a great manager. He’s done a similar job at Everton, he didn’t have that much to spend and he kept them consistently playing well.
“It will be hard for them, losing Fergie, but I think in time, Moyes will get it right.”
Injury-prone Micah Richards returned to first-team action for Manchester City in their decisive 3-1 win against West Ham on Saturday.
Victory for the blues lifted them into fourth place in the Premier League table only three points adrift of table-topping Arsenal.
Richards said: “It’s going to be a tough season ahead but wins like today make all the difference.”
The Citizens now find themselves five points ahead of arch-rivals Manchester United after Moyes’ men conceded a late equaliser to Southampton continuing the poor start to the David Moyes era.
