Northampton Town captain Ian Morris believes his side will end Rochdale’s unbeaten home record when the two teams meet at Spotland tonight.
The lowly visitors are currently second from bottom of League Two while Dale are second from top and have won seven games out of eight.
But Morris, who scored his team’s equaliser in their 2-2 draw with Dagenham & Redbridge on Saturday, is adamant the Cobblers will turn the league table on its head this evening.
“I fancy us massively at Rochdale on Tuesday,” Morris told BBC Radio Northampton.
“Coming back to draw against Dagenham gives us a lot of confidence and we’ll take that to Spotland.”
Dale’s opponents have won just one match in eleven although they were last season’s League Two play-off finalists, losing 3-0 to Bradford City.
Rochdale manager Keith Hill acknowledged the threat Northampton, managed by Aidy Boothroyd, pose and was quick to play down the significance of the League Two standings after 12 games of the 46 on the fixture list.
“The league table means nothing at this time of the season, it’s about points and trying to win games (and) trying to stick to your morals,” Hill told The Dale Player.
“We’ll be well versed (and) well prepared with respect to Northampton. I’ve got a lot of admiration for Aidy and his teams and it’ll be a stern test of our character.”
Hill is understandably pleased with his side’s form so far this season yet insists there is still room for improvement.
“I’m thinking about performances and I can’t be too disappointed with a lot of the performances we’ve had this season,” he said.
“However, let’s not over egg the pudding. We’re still a work in progress, we’ve got a lot of learning to do, there’s a lot of football games left to play, but I’m reasonably happy.”
