Welsh Wizard Ryan Giggs claims he has seen it all in his time at Manchester United and believes the Red Devils have faced tougher challenges than this season.
United’s defence of their 20th title crown has hardly been approached with vigour; they go into week seven of the Premier League having accumulated only seven points.
The 13-time Premier League remains unconcerned by United’s indifferent start and expects the Red Devils to get back in the race for glory.
“It’s not the most difficult season I’ve had,” Giggs said. “There have been topsy-turvy seasons in the past. I have been in the team for 20-odd years and I have seen more or less everything,” he said.
“City have been beaten twice, nobody has hit the ground running who we’d have expected to. There is enough time for us to get back to the top.”
He also dismissed suggestions of a crisis, pointing out United’s history and saying that, in terms of bad form, sooner is better than later.
“You would rather be showing this form at the start of the season than at the end,” he said. “You have just got to hang in there to the turn of the year, as we always say, and then hopefully hit a bit of form like we historically do.”
Manager David Moyes today reiterated that the United board have faith in him and Giggs believes it is the players who are to blame.
“Sir Alex [Ferguson] was a great manager and a great influence the club – you are going to miss someone like that,” the 39-year-old veteran said.
“But I don’t think that is an excuse when individuals aren’t playing as well as they can. We are not playing well as a team. We haven’t got injury problems as we have had in the past. There is no excuse.”
