Non League Matters: Hyde seek fortune change as high-flying Curzon Ashton look to maintain perfect record

Sitting at the foot of the Skrill Premier, Hyde United are looking to change their fortunes and register their first win of the season against newly promoted Welling United at Ewen Fields tomorrow.

The Tigers will be without first choice keeper Dave Carnell who picked up a groin injury in Tuesday’s 2-0 defeat to Woking. Defender Ben Dennis and striker Danny Carlton are also expected to miss this weekend’s game with knee injuries.

Welling meanwhile come into the game in 13th place after an impressive 5-2 victory over Forest Green in mid-week and Hyde boss Scott McNiven recognised the threat that Jamie Day’s side posed.

“This is another massive test for us, Welling are full of confidence after being newly promoted and achieving that great result against Forest Green,” he said.

“They are a good strong team but if we put in another good performance I’m sure we can get that first win.”

Meanwhile in the Conference North, Stockport County, who are only a place above the bottom three, will be in action away at 13th place Stalybridge.

This will be caretaker manager Alan Lord’s fourth game in charge following the resignation of Ian Bogie at the end of last month. Out of eight games so far, County have only taken three points from a 3-1 home victory against Gainsborough Trinity.

In the Evo-Stik Northern Premier Division, FC United of Manchester will try to bounce back from FA Cup first round qualifying disappointment as they travel to bottom club Stafford Rangers on Saturday.

Trafford will be hoping to find form after their midweek defeat to Frickley Athletic despite Lewis Lacy’s opener as they welcome Rushall Olympic to Shawe View.

Whilst Droylsden, sitting one place behind Trafford after picking up just two points in the campaign, face a tough tie at 8th placed Ilkeston FC.

High-flying Curzon Ashton are looking to maintain their 100% record as they face a tricky tie away to Northwich Victoria in the Division One North encounter.

The club continued their sensational start to the campaign with a victory over Marine last weekend in the FA Cup first qualifying round and will be hoping to add to their 17 league goals on Saturday.
