‘We’re going all the way’: Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero targets Champions League glory

By Marios Papaloizou

Despite a series of underwhelming Champions League campaigns Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero believes his side can turn their luck around and reach the final this season.

City have failed to progress beyond the group stage in the past two seasons after being pitted against some of European football’s biggest sides.

Despite being drawn against European champions Bayern Munich in this season’s competition Aguero believes that the Citizens will make it out of the group and can then launch an assault on the crown.

“We have Bayern again this year, but we also play CSKA and Viktoria,” said the Argentine.

“Get past the first stage and, with luck, you can get to the final.”

While City may not be among the strongest favourites for the competition Aguero believes that the Champions League is a place for surprises and the Blues can cause a few upsets on their way to glory.

“The Champions League sometimes allows semi surprises,” he said.

“Dortmund were finalists last year and Roberto Di Matteo’s Chelsea in 2012.

“They were good teams and tactically well-organised, but were certainly not considered the best at the beginning.

“Now I can only think of Barcelona, as a semi-finalist at least, and then the usual sides – Real, Bayern, United, and ourselves.”
