We’re best team in town: Super striker Sergio Aguero believes Manchester City have squad to win back title

By Tim Hyde

Manchester City’s Argentinean talisman Sergio Aguero believes that Blues have a strong enough squad to be considered top contenders for this year’s Premier League title.

City have enjoyed a bright start to the season putting them third in the table with six points,

But the prolific striker thinks the Blues boast the strongest squad in the division – ahead of cross-city rivals Manchester United.

“I am convinced that we are stronger than last year. It’s a fight to finish first in the Premier League but we have a good team to win, I would say we’ve a squad a little better than United or Chelsea,” Aguero told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“United will be the first rival, although they have changed coach, and then Chelsea with the return of Mourinho, even Tottenham have a good team, then there’s always Liverpool…”

City strengthened their squad over the summer, splashing more than £90million and Aguero believes that the signings have improved the squad significantly.

Manager Manuel Pellegrini has also changed the style of football played at the Etihad and has since seen a change in Aguero’s role.

Former Blues boss Roberto Mancini opted to play the striker in a wider supporting role, but after his departure, Pellegrini has moved the super-striker centrally and Aguero seems to be reaping the benefits.

When the Argentinean was asked about Mancini, he was keen to explain that he got on well with the Italian and Aguero used the opportunity to rubbish reports from the British media that there had been dressing room unrest.

“[Our relationship was] very good, he always treated me well, properly, we won a league here after 44 years,” Aguero said.

“It’s not true Mancini has had problems with the dressing room, they were writing the papers when we were not at the top, but it’s not true.

“I have to respect the decision of the club to change coach, but relations with Roberto were excellent.”

Aguero also revealed that he refuses to let go of that goal against QPR, admitting he frequently watches replays of it

“So far it’s the most important goal of my career. Yes, I happen to watch it in the company of my girlfriend or friends,” he said.
