With deadline day disappointment lingering in the Old Trafford air Manchester United fans have cause to rejoice as the possible return of club hero Cristiano Ronaldo has become slightly more realistic.
The Portuguese forward has been heavily linked with a return to Manchester and the superstar has added fuel to the transfer fire by hitting out current club Real Madrid’s sale of Mesut Ozil.
Ozil, who racked up 47 assists in his time at Madrid, was sold to Arsenal for £42.4million – a move which has angered Ronaldo.
“Ozil’s departure is very bad news for me. He was the player who knew my moves in front of goal the best,” he told Spanish newspaper AS.
“I’m angry about Ozil leaving.”
Ronaldo is yet to sign a new contract with Los Blancos and, after Antonio Valencia vacated the famous number 7 shirt, United fans have been anxiously waiting news of their hero’s return.
In addition, it is widely reported that Ronaldo is unhappy with the arrival of Welsh superstar Gareth Bale to the Santiago Bernabeu who has taken Cristiano’s title of ‘most expensive player in the world’.
Although Ronaldo has been successful at Madrid it has been widely reported on several occasions that the player is not as content as he was under the management of Sir Alex Ferguson.
As his contract runs down Spanish giants Madrid may have to cash in on their ‘Galactico’ while they can still get a premium price for him.
Next summer Ronaldo will just have just one year remaining on his present deal and, with continued reluctance to sign an extension, United could be poised to make a bid for him in the next window.
Ronaldo’s increasing unhappiness in the Spanish capital is now further accentuated by the departure of Ozil and ‘CR7’ could make the decision that his time with Madrid is finally up.
