Former Everton goalkeeper Neville Southall has lashed out at David Moyes’ attempts to sign Leighton Baines and Marouane Fellaini and branded the manager’s behaviour as ‘despicable’.
Southall continued his attack by saying that United’s bid to bring the players to Old Trafford in a joint bid ‘stinks’.
The former Toffee’s man also claimed that the United have vastly undervalued the players and the bids were disrespectful to Everton’s fans.
“The joint bid stinks. The way David Moyes has gone about it stinks,” Southall said in his column for PaddyPower.
“The entire world knows Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines are worth a lot more than the £28 million offered and Moyes is disrespecting Everton.
“It’s really despicable behaviour towards Everton and disrespectful towards the fans.”
Southall acknowledges that Moyes wasn’t the only person involved in lodging the transfer bid but he does feel that the Scot has jeopardised his standing with Everton fans by trying to sign the players.
“The stupid offer – and it is a stupid offer – isn’t entirely down to him, but he shouldn’t; go in with an offer that seriously undervalues the players just to unsettle them. Doing it this way stinks,” he said.
“It wouldn’t have happened under Ferguson.
“There’s a real danger he will lose all his credibility with the Everton fans…The manner in which it has been done is rubbish.
