As Manchester City waltzed to victory on Tuesday night the Blues’ fans were given their first taste of the Chilean flair that Manuel Pellegrini has brought to the club.
Pellegrini appears to have taken up the challenge of winning with attractive and there were no signs of teething problems for City at the Etihad on Monday night.
Full back Gael Clichy was thrilled with the Blues’ aggressive tactics that led to a resounding 4-0 victory over Newcastle.
“We are going to play like this from today to the last game,” the France international said.
“When you play for a team like City you always want three points.
“The ideal game is to play attractive football, score goals and create chances but at the end of the day the most important thing is three points.
“On Monday night we did that, with the way we played as well. We can be happy with the result.”
Clichy’s fellow full-back Pablo Zabaleta also appeared in jovial spirits after a near-perfect start for the former champions.
“We want that title back and we will try to get it back with attractive football,” he said.
“The performance was fantastic, the team spirit was great and this is the way we want to play.
Zabaleta believes that his new manager has already stamped his identity on City’s team and the players are responding to his methods.
“If you saw Pellegrini’s teams before he came to City, they always played this way,” said Zabaleta.
“They were very aggressive, always trying to kill the ball, get into spaces and, above all, playing to win.
“He produces aggressive, attacking teams who play with a good tempo and a high intensity. We did that.”
