David Moyes is struggling to bring in who he wants at Manchester United but the Scot insists he will add to the Premier League champions’ squad sooner rather than later.
So far this summer, United have seen transfer target Thiago Alcantara join Bayern Munich and Barcelona refuse bids for midfielder Cesc Fabregas.
But regardless, Moyes feels midfield is an area of the Old Trafford squad requiring improvement and will continue to persist with his efforts.
“At the moment that’s probably our priority, to try and add a player in that position,” he told the Daily Telegraph. “I’d like to add at least a couple of players.
“When I got the job, I was made aware of what could possibly be done to improve things and signing a midfield player was one area we thought we could possibly add to the squad.
“I think it’s hard to get top-quality players who can come in and affect your team. That’s why we’re trying to go for what we see as the right players and the best players.”
The only acquisition Moyes has made so far this summer is young Uruguayan defender Guillermo Varela.
He has also been linked with raiding former club Everton for English left-back Leighton Baines and Belgian midfielder Marouane Fellaini.
While aiming to make his own mark on the Red Devils’ squad, evolution and not revolution is what the Glaswegian is seeking at United as the new Premier League season approaches.
“I would like to add a couple, not simply to freshen it up, but to keep things going,” he explained. “If you are making lots of changes every year, it is not a good sign.
“You need to change a smaller number of players each year. I’m going off the direction that I have had and I think that’s right and why we will aim to get a couple of players in if we can.”
