Mercurial Dutch striker Robin van Persie insists everyone must earn their place again in the squad under new Manchester United manager David Moyes, and relishes the challenge of earning his respect.
The 50-year-old succeeded fellow Glaswegian Sir Alex Ferguson as United boss at the end of last season, with the Red Devils currently on their pre-season tour.
And having linked up with the Old Trafford squad in Australia, van Persie revealed his first meeting with Moyes went well and feels it is a fresh start for all.
“It is all new but sometimes it is good as well to have a new challenge and to work with new people with new ideas,” he told MUTV.
“It was the first time I’d met David and the first time I spoke to him. He came across as really nice and I had a good session yesterday.
“It gives you a big challenge but I’m looking forward to it. Everyone looks forward to it. The guys are working hard and I have to follow now.
“Every training session is a big challenge – especially now everyone starts again on zero and you have to earn your place again.”
The Dutchman ended last season as United’s top scorer, finding the back of the net 30 times as he won his first Premier League winners medal.
Van Persie was one of Ferguson’s final purchases as United boss, costing £24million from Arsenal last summer, and was voted into the PFA Team of the Year.
The Premier League champions pre-season tour of theFar East sees them visit Australia, Japan, Hong Kong and Sweden.
