Ambitious Manchester City new boy Jesus Navas has set his sights on Champions League glory – and believes the Blues have the squad to challenge for European honours.
The Spanish winger was officially unveiled yesterday, sat alongside former player and New York City FC director Claudio Reyna after signing for an initial £15 million.
And the pacey ex-Sevilla wide man admitted joining City’s talent-packed squad is a dream come true for him.
“I’ve won some important titles, but the Champions League is something you always have in mind,” he told the club website.
“Individually, City have such good players and the idea of playing there with such amazing players and fighting for a title attracted me most about the club.
“The truth is it’s like a dream for me to play for a club like Manchester City and fight for titles and everything that comes with that.”
Navas, part of Spain’s World Cup and Euro 2012 winning squads, also believes the Blues will thrive under the pressure of trying to build on the success they had under sacked boss Roberto Mancini.
New manager Manuel Pellegrini is expected to be unveiled this week and having already captured Navas and Brazilian midfielder Fernandinho, the Spaniard believes City will be successful this year.
“The challenge we have is to win important titles,” he added. “I think pressure is great, it can make the game more exciting and force us to play our best.
“City have been successful in recent years and are continuing to build a great team and I am honoured to now be part of it.
“There are important players here. They are at City because they offer something special. There is a strong squad that can have a great season.”
