Despite publically declaring their need for a million pounds to stay afloat at the end of the season, Bury have announced a new saviour to lead them out of League Two.
Stewart Day will replace Brian Fenton as the boss and there will be a new board of directors and other appointments in the next few days.
Day admitted his delight in taking over the day-to-day running of the club after a thorough negotiation process, and wants commitment from all the staff at Gigg Lane.
“I am extremely proud to take over the role and responsibility of putting Bury Football Club back onto a strong football and financial footing,” said Day, who insisted the ‘frustrated’ fan base will shape the club’s future.
“Step one is to stop the rot and to start from a clean page.
“Over the next few weeks, we will welcome supporters to the club in a series of questions and answer sessions.
“This will allow everyone the chance to express their opinions and allow their frustrations to be released.”
Kevin Blackwell, who was a vociferous critic of his previous bosses, will stay in charge but Day insists the club will avoid making the same financial mistakes.
The chairman also revelled in the 54-year-old’s ability to attract the best possible players and hopes to achieve playing quality in his five-year plan.
“I have taken time with Kevin Blackwell and have been very impressed with his level of professionalism,” he said.
“The new board will bring a variety of professionalism and experience within different sectors to support my vision to ensure that we will be fighting for Championship football.”
It was also announced the club’s transfer embargo was lifted, after loans from the Professional Footballers Association were repaid in full, while an outstanding tax bill was also settled, leading to a winding up order being withdrawn.
The club also announced their ambitions to improve facilities with regards to training and the ground.
